Lakeside Center Phase 2
The Lakeside Center project is an improvement initiative for the 585-acre Prospect Park located in the heart of Brooklyn. Encompassing the demolition of the winter-only Wollman outdoor skating rink, the project contemplates the construction of a LEED-certified 4-season recreation building including a new rink and substantial landscaping in the area. The Prospect Park Alliance and the City of New York claim that this initiative restores the original multi-use, all-season vision of the original architects of Prospect Park namely, Olmsted and Vaux.
The project enables a longer skating season with two new rinks where one is indoor and the other outdoor, roller skating, three additional acres of green space, a redesigned park entrance and new resources for environmental education. General contractor is Siame Construction with foundations work by Island Foundations Corporation. According to this news report, the city has already broken ground on the initiative. The foundations work is scheduled to begin in January 2011.
