250 E 57TH STREET (PS 59)

The Educational Construction Fund is an innovative public-private partnership developing a mixed-use parcel of land on what had been a public school at 250 East 57th Street in Manhattan. The project encompass a primary school (PS 59), the high school of art and design, retailer space including the announced anchor tenant, Whole Foods and what is sure to become an iconic 59-story residential tower, designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Shown below is the artists rendition of the two schools, which are the initial phase of the development together with the Whole Foods store (not shown).

Phase 2 is an additional 78,000 square feet of retail and the 59-story residential building that will begin once the High School of Art and Design has relocated to its new home on this site in 2012.

Gotham Construction is the general contractor. Island Foundations Corporation will be providing foundations and superstructure concrete for this highly acclaimed initiative and starts work in December 2010.
